Srinagar, June 10: Bugs were found in Real Juice packets in Baramulla in north Kashmir, creating panic among consumers on Thursday.
The consumers complained that they found large number of bugs beneath and floating as they fill the glass with juice.
“This is unsafe food article. It would have been a disaster in case we had given the juice packed directly to children for consumption,” Bilal Ahmad, a consumer told ANN News.
Several consumers have similar complaints, asking authorities to recall the “unsafe juice” from markets and send its samples for laboratory testing.
People complained that juice packets have not been prepared in compliance of Food Safety and Standard Act 2006, terming it “unsafe.”
“Authorities must act swiftly and stop the distribution and sale of this unsafe food product. It shall be a disaster for public health if such measure is not taken forthwith,” said a group of consumers.
Pertinently, in Kashmir, the juice is mostly used in summers with children, elderly and patients taking it most.
“The unsafe juice must be recalled from markets in the interest of general public health and strict action under law must be taken against food business operator,” said a group of consumers.
