Budgam, Oct 19 — The political temperature in Budgam is rising as the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have officially announced their candidates for the upcoming Budgam Assembly by-election, setting the stage for a fierce two-way contest.

The JKNC has fielded Agha Syed Mehmood as its official candidate. Party leaders expressed full confidence in Mehmood’s experience and commitment, asserting that he will effectively represent the aspirations of the people of Budgam.

Meanwhile, the PDP has nominated Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, who is scheduled to file his nomination papers tomorrow at 12 PM. Mehdi, a young and energetic face of the party, is expected to lead a spirited campaign focused on development and public welfare.

Although several independent candidates and smaller parties are also in the fray, the main battle clearly appears to be between the two traditional rivals — JKNC and PDP — both of whom have deep political roots in Budgam.

Political observers say this by-election could serve as a litmus test for the popularity and ground strength of both major parties in central Kashmir, as they seek to re-establish their influence among voters.

Campaigning is expected to pick up momentum in the coming days, with both sides mobilizing their cadres and reaching out to voters across Budgam.
