Bringing back 200 youth, who were on cusp of becoming militants, my achievement in past 1 year: Outgoing GoC 15 Corps
Says J&K police getting all-time high human intelligence as people are fed up with militancy; ‘American weapons making way into Kashmir Valley not a challenge, as drills & procedures have already been changed’
Srinagar, May 05
Outgoing General officer Commanding of Srinagar based 15 Corps, D P Pandey on Thursday said that bringing 200 youth, who were on the cusp of becoming militants, back to society was his achievement in the Kashmir Valley.
Talking to reporters on side-lines of a send-off tea ceremony at B B Cant, Pandey said that his achievement in the past one year was that more than 200 youth, who were possibly on the cusp of becoming militants and majority of who had become militants, were brought back to society.
Talking about the achievements of Company Commanders, soldiers and other officials of 15 Corps, Pandey said that everybody achieved in terms of operations, actions to ensure that no woman, daughter or mother has to cry for a loss which is happening because somebody has become a militant.
“I had come with a philosophy of breaking the violence in which on one side we kept on neutralizing militants and on the other, we wanted to reduce number of youth picking up arms and I think we have done well on both levels,” he added.
He added that most important change that is taking place today is that J&K Police is getting so much human intelligence that people don’t want militants to come and stay in their homes.
“People don’t want to be called militant supporters openly now. There are places where militant supporters or super OGWs are being isolated. There is a change which is happening and everyone is happy with this change,” he said.
On being asked about whether it will be a security challenge as American weapons used in Afghanistan have find their way to Kashmir, Pandey said that these are not challenges but there are changes required in procedures, drills and practices.
“There are some weapons which have come across with American stamp or with night scopes but we have already changed our style of functioning,” he added.
Notably Lt. Gen D S Aujla will be taking over as General Officer Commanding of Srinagar based 15 Corps on May 09 and Lt. Gen D P Pandey take over as Commandant Army War College Mhow based in Madhya Pradesh. (KNS)
