Blasphemous Remarks Against Prophet Muhammad (SAW): Advocate Seeks FIR Registration

Mudasir Yaqoob

Srinagar, Sep 5: A High Court advocate from Jammu and Kashmir, Aaamir Masoodi, has filed a complaint with the Batamaloo Police seeking the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Narsinghanand Saraswati, a Hindu priest from Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly making blasphemous remarks against the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The complaint states that a video containing the accused’s blasphemous remarks was circulated on social media platforms on September 29, 2024.

Masoodi, in a written complaint, said that Narsinghanand has a significant public following, and his statements have the potential to inflame public sentiments, threatening peace in both the country and the Muslim-majority region of Jammu and Kashmir.

The complaint describes the situation as “unfortunate,” emphasizing that Narsinghanand, as a public figure, should not resort to statements that jeopardize the nation’s pluralistic culture and communal harmony.

Masoodi has invoked several sections of the law, including 196, 299, 302, and 352 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), arguing that the accused’s derogatory remarks have deeply hurt religious sentiments and warrant stringent legal action.

Narsinghanand has a history of legal troubles, including previous criminal cases related to hate speech.

In 2022, he was arrested in connection with a similar case.06:38 PM
