Srinagar, July 4:(Report CITY FM JK) In Kashmir, very few police officers have been most liked by the youth in past three decades. Former Inspector General of Police SM Sahai is one of the top police officers who is still very close to hearts of people especially to youth in Kashmir.

Large number of youth have also taken selfie with him and feel proud in showing it others. The policing of Sahai was more humanitarian than the pushing astray youth to walls, believes local youth in Srinagar. “Mr Sahai was loveful to youth and respectful to elders. If youth were not pro-India but they are surely pro-Sahai,” says Mushtaq Ahmad, a scholar at Kashmir University. He added that he changed the mindset of local youth through his humanitarian approach by red reason their grievances and problems. Ghulam Rosool of Downtown area in Srinagar said that his son was wanted in one of the stone pelting cases.

“My son who was then in his twenties had participated in stone pelting. He was wanted by police in a case. My son wanted to apologize so he directly went to meet Mr Sahai In his office,” he added. He said his son, who was a pursuing graduation, presented the apology letter before Sahai and submitted that he should be given amnesty as an opportunity to restart his life. Sahai had been very kind to encourage youth in question work for the welfare of Society at large. “Today my son is working in a reputed private organization earning Rs 25000 per month to support the family. The amnesty by Sahai changed his life from bad to good forever,” said Rasool. Sahai has always supported local youth in Kashmir in pursuing higher education, fight against corruption.

“He was always there to support local youth. He never allowed his junior officers to misuse power and position by harassing any innocent. We all miss him,” said a group of youth at Khanyar Srinagar. Intellectuals say that Sahai was judged by people by his actions and not by his words.

“In actions of Sahai, local youth saw the real image of India. Through his action, he proved India loves people Kashmir. Otherwise, youth in Kashmir have heard just mere statement of Love from Indian politicians,” said a professor of Philosophy, who wished not to be named, adding, “Most of the youth want him back in Kashmir.”

People in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in Kashmir are eagerly waiting for arrival of Sahai back in state as Director General of Police.

Sahai was shifted from Srinagar to Delhi as some PDP ministers had differences with him. The differences erupted after Sahai was not ready to appease these ministers at the cost of public interest.

“PDP ministers have always played dirty politics. It is because of these few PDP ministers that the most favorite top police officer was transferred from the state.”

In 2016, Sahai addressed press conference and revealed that the then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was knowing that most famous Hizb commander Burhan Wani was trapped in Bamdoora village of Kokernag before he was killed in an encounter. This was disliked by Chief Minister as she had said that she was not knowing Burhan was trapped whose killing led to mass uprising and continuous shutdown and unrest for six months.
