Authorities Finalise Arrangements For Muharram
Srinagar: Authorities have geared up men and machinery to ensure proper arrangements for Muharram, first month of Islamic calendar, which began on Wednesday.
Deputy commissioner Srinagar Syed Abid Rasheed Shah has directed officials to ensure that all necessary arrangements were put in place to make available facilities during remembrance functions and processions related to Muharram.
On the other hand Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has set up six special teams for sanitation purposes at various Imambaras.
Muharram is observed for first ten days of the month and the last day of Muharram is known as Day of Ashura, to observes martyrdom of Hazrat Hussain (RA) –grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
This year, Ashura falls on Friday, 21st September.
During these 10 days, additional measures are taken in Srinagar to provide uninterrupted water and power supply and other facilities to people, especially those from Shia community.
“We are installing 200 street lights on war footing basis. All Imambaras have been sanitized and our teams are working round-the-clock to ensure devotees don’t face any inconvenience. We have also installed colour coded dustbins at several Imambaras,” said Muhammad Akbar Sofi, SMC’s officer on special duty and nodal officer for Muharram arrangements.
The SMC commissioner visited Imambara at Zadibal, Bemina, Khomeini Chowk and newly constructed Imambara Ayatollah Yousuf (RA) to take stock of arrangements made in connection with the auspicious days of Muharram.
