Authorities Fail To Lock Unregistered Nursing Home In Anantnag
Anantnag: Despite directions from divisional administration, the Health department in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district has failed to shut an unregistered nursing home.
According to reports, the South City Hospital named nursing home located on Khanabal-Pahalgam road in Anantnag town is functioning without obtaining formal registration from the Health department.
The nursing home has gone functional came to fore after a local resident (name withheld) approached district hospital authorities for one blood point.
“Doctors will operate upon on my wife at South City Hospital, so I need one blood point,” he pleaded before the authorities.
He also handed over a written letter of the hospital to them in which it was clearly mentioned that patient needs blood for transfusion. A copy of letter lies with ET.
The nursing home had got blood bank registration, but now it has been cancelled by the district hospital authorities, sources revealed.
A spot visit by this reporter also found a patient lying on bed in a room designated as ward. A group of patients were also waiting for their turn to meet a doctor, most probably a surgeon. Nurses were also spotted doing rounds inside the nursing home. Supplies including those being used for surgeries have also been stocked in a room.
Sources claimed that doctors practicing at the nursing home cancelled all the scheduled surgeries and requested patients to return home.
Chief Medical Officer Anantnag, Dr Fazil Kochak admitted that the nursing home hasn’t yet obtained registration from the Health department.
“He (nursing home owner) has applied for the registration and same is under process in the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir,” he said.
CMO Anantnag said that he will look into the issue and confirm from his subordinates that how the nursing home has been made operational by the owner. A few minutes later, Chief Medical Officer Anantnag called this reporter and said that the nursing home isn’t functional.
“My team just visited the hospital it isn’t functional. Only doctors are seeing patients in OPD that we can’t stop,” he said. (ET Report)
