Arvind Kejriwal arrested by ED in liquor probe, to be produced in court tomorrow

Arvind Kejriwal is the second sitting chief minister arrested in recent times after Jharkhand’s former CM Hemant Soren.

NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with an excise policy-linked money laundering case on Thursday night.

The arrest, the first of a sitting chief minister, came hours after the Delhi high court refused to grant protection to Kejriwal from any coercive action by the agency.

AAP leaders Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj confirmed the news, saying that Kejriwal will continue to serve as the CM of Delhi even from jail. Atishi also said that the party has filed a case in the Supreme Court and demanded an urgent hearing. “We have received news that ED has arrested Arvind Kejriwal… We have always said that Arvind Kejriwal will run the govt from jail. He will remain the CM of Delhi. We have filed a case in the Supreme Court. Our lawyers are reaching SC. We will demand SC have an urgent hearing tonight,” Atishi told reporters
