Army distributes saffron seed among farmers

KISHTWAR, SEPTEMBER 18: As a goodwill gesture and its commitment towards the welfare of people, the army camp (17th RR) located at Dul today distributed free saffron seed among marginal farmers of Padyarna village of Nagseni block.

The project was carried under operation Sadhbhavna with an aim to promote saffron farming in remote areas.

As saffron is very expensive and due to lack of a proper market in remote areas, the marginal farmers avoid its cultivation. Now with the efforts of the army and technical support from Horticulture Department Kishtwar the farmers will reap the benefits of the scheme.

On the occasion, a Self Help Group (SHG) was also constituted to market their products on e-Commerce websites.
