Arab League Rejects Trump Proposal to Occupy Gaza and Resettle Palestinians in Other Countries
By ANN News
The Arab League has firmly rejected former U.S. President Donald Trump controversial proposal to occupy Gaza and resettle Palestinians in other countries. This stance was articulated during an emergency meeting held in Cairo, where Arab foreign ministers condemned the idea as a blatant violation of Palestinian rights and international law.
The proposal, which has reportedly resurfaced amidst ongoing tensions in the region, suggests relocating Palestinians from Gaza to neighbouring nations as part of a broader plan to stabilise the area. Trump has allegedly argued that such measures would bring long-term peace to the region.
However, the Arab League and several member states have criticized the plan, calling it an attempt to erase the Palestinian identity and undermine their struggle for self-determination.
Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, strongly opposed the proposal, stating:
The idea of displacing Palestinians from their homeland is both unacceptable and illegal. The Arab League stands united in defending the Palestinian people right to return to their land and establish their independent state.
He further emphasized that any peace process must adhere to internationally recognized frameworks, including the two-state solution, and align with UN resolutions.
Countries like Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia have also rejected the proposal. A senior Egyptian diplomat stated:
Resettling Palestinians elsewhere is a non-starter. It threatens the security and stability of the region while ignoring the core issue of occupation.
Jordan, home to a significant number of Palestinian refugees, expressed concerns about the repercussions of such a plan, calling it a dangerous precedent.
The Palestinian Authority (PA) has called Trump proposal a repackaged form of ethnic cleansing.PA President Mahmoud Abbas reiterated that Palestinians will not leave their land, stating:
We will not allow anyone to erase our existence or displace our people. The world must hold accountable those who attempt to perpetuate injustice.
The proposal has also sparked international outrage, with human rights organizations and UN officials denouncing it as a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Critics argue that relocating Palestinians would exacerbate regional tensions and hinder any meaningful dialogue for peace.
The Arab League rejection underscores the region collective commitment to safeguarding Palestinian rights. The international community is now watching closely to see how this proposal will influence future geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East.
