Anantnag Gunfight: Slain Identified As Local Militants

Anantnag Nov 23 :The militants killed in a gunfight at Sutkipora area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday have been identified.

The slain militants are District Commander Anantnag Unais alias Furkaan, Noor-ul-Haq both residents of Takibal. Aqib Das alias Hamza of Waghama, Dr Burhan of S K Colony Anantnag, Luqman and Huraira of Bijbehara.

They were locally known to be associated with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen group. However, police said the slain were associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit.

According to police, a joint team of Army’s 3RR and special operations group of police launched a search operation on a hideout in foothills of Waghama Sutkipora of Bijbeihara.

While zeroing in on the suspected location, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight.

Police spokesman said it was “most successful operations of this year so far” and “six dead bodies of militants and six rifles recovered” from the site of gunfight.
