Anantnag admin bans swimming, bathing in Jhelum, other water bodies

Srinagar, July 17: Authorities in Anantnag on Friday imposed a blanket ban on swimming and bathing in River Jhelum, its tributaries, nallahs, streams, and other water bodies within the south Kashmir district forthwith.
“In view of the threat to human lives due to drowning incidents while bathing/swimming in Rivers / Streams/ Nallahs; and as a precautionary measure, a blanket ban is hereby imposed on swimming/bathing in River Jehlum, its tributaries, nallahs, streams and other water bodies within Anantnag district forthwith,” reads an order issued by Deputy Commissioner Anantnag KK Sidha which lies with news agency KINS.
“The Tehsildars (Executive Magistrates), Police Officers (SHOs) & Engineers of Jal Shakti Department shall keep strict vigil in their respective areas of jurisdiction to ensure implementation of the order in letter and spirit,” the order, adds. Earlier, two boys, both aged 12, drowned in Dadi canal in Khiram. (KINS)
