Amid lockdown, 3 labourers walking back home slip to death in Pir Panchal range

Banihal: Three labourers slipped to death at Hinjhal Top in Pir Panchal range of mountains on Wednesday while they were walking back from the Valley to their homes in Banihal.

Senior Police officials said another person Parvez Ahmad was injured when the group of labourers returning back to Banihal through Verinag slipped on a glacier.

The deceased have been identified as Ghulam Mohiudin and Riyaz Ahmad, sons of Molvie Shafi who are residents of Hinjahal, Dooligam in Banihal. The third deceased has been identified as Zubair Ahmad who is also a Banihal resident. “All three dead bodies have been recovered and moved to sub-district hospital Banihal while the injured is being treated,” Superintendent of Police, Ramban, Haseeb-ur-Rehman told Greater Kashmir.

The officials said it was after another three labourers travelling on the same route had safely reached their homes in Banihal that family members of the missing labourers became alert and informed the police. “Soon, a search operation consisting of police, volunteers and army was launched and dead bodies were recovered today,” the official said.
