Amarnath Yatra: Pilgrims eager to have glimpse of cave shrine after two years hiatus

Chandanwari/Baltal Jun 30 : Hundreds of enthusiastic Pilgrims on Thursday most of them on foot were seen climbing the mountains to have the glimpse of Lord Shiva at the cave shrine in Himalayas of Kashmir.

As per (KNO), chanting ‘Bam Bam Bhole’ and ‘Jai Barfani Baba ki’, pilgrims were seen enthusiastic and moving ahead to reach to the cave shrine to pay obeisance.

Most of them were going by foot while some were on horsebacks. The cave shrine is reached through two routes, Nunwan in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam and Baltal in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal.

Piligrims while talking to KNO lauded the arrangements made for them.

Ram Chander, a piligrim from Maharashtra who is coming to yatra fourth time on way to Chandanwari said that hr prays for peace in the country.

“Our message to everyone will be that there is no fear, there are best security arrangements and anyone can come here without any problem as people here are very helpful,”he said.

He appreciated hospitality and cooperation of people.

“I have been paying obeisance at the cave shrine regularly for the past 15 years. This year too, I am going to seek peace and prosperity for the mankind,” said another pilgrim from Chhattisgarh.

Anil Sharma from Delhi while moving through Baltal route said that weather is very pleasant and that he is enjoying it.

“There is no threat as best security arrangements are here and we are hopeful that everything has begun well and everything will end well,” he added.

Vikas, another pilgrim from Madhya Pradesh said that he is very excited that yatra has begun after two years.

Officials said that around three lakh pilgrims have registered so far for the annual Amarnath Yatra, .

The government, this year, has introduced a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system for pilgrims to track their movement en-route to ensure their well-being.

“Adequate security has been put in place for the base camps and all routes,however, security is a major challenge,” they said.

Amarnath Yatra, which began today, is being held after two years as it remained suspended due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The 43-day Yatra will conclude on August 11 on the Occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
