‘Al-Badr Commander, Associate Laid To Rest’: Thousands Participated In Funeral, Gun Salute Offered

Shopian: Thousands of people from different areas of Kashmir valley on Saturday participated in the funeral procession of top Al Badr Commander Zeenat-ul-Islam and his associate Shakeel Ahmad at their native villages, Sugan and Chilipora in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Even after restrictions by authorities, thousands of people marched towards native villages of slain militants and participated in their funerals.
During funeral procession, associates of slain Al Badr Commander aslo appeared and offered gun salute to their Commander. People also raised pro-militant and pro-freedom slogans during his funeral.
Amid, pro-militant slogans, slain Al Badr Commander Zeenat-ul-Islam was laid to rest at his native village, Sugan in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Clashes also erupted between government forces and youths at Sugan and Chilipora, native villages of slain militants in Shopian district.
Government forces used teargas shells, pellet firing and bullets to disperse protesters during which several youths received injuries.
A girl was also injured during clashes after she was hit by an army vehicle in Sugan village.
All the injured people were shifted to hospital for treatment among them some people were referred to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment.
Meanwhile, all South Kashmir districts observed complete shutdown against the killing of two militants in an encounter with government forces at Katapora on Saturday evening.
All shops, educational institutions, business establishments remained closed in all four districts of South Kashmir, while as traffic movement was also not visible on roads.
Authorities also snapped down mobile internet services in Shopian and Kulgam districts of South Kashmir as a precautionary measure. Further, train service was also suspended in South Kashmir to maintain law and order.
