AIIMS PG Exam: No test centre set up in Kashmir, students seek governor’s intervention

Srinagar: Amid hue and cry for ignoring Kashmir in allotment of centres, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi has allotted exam centres for Kashmiri aspirants outside valley.

The move has evoked resentment from the aspirants who have urged the authorities to shift their exam centres to Kashmir.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences is the exam conducting body of AIIMS PG 2019 entrance examination. The exam is scheduled to be conducted on May 05, aggrieved aspirants said.

Greater Kashmir received distress emails from AIIMS PG exam aspirants who complained that they won’t be in a position to travel to Jammu for appearing in the exams.

“We have been allotted exam centres only in Jammu and not in Kashmir. We request the governor administration to intervene and shift our centres to Valley,” said Hamza, an aspirant.

The aspirants said travelling out of valley to appear in exams was a mental torture for them and disturbs their last minute preparations as well.

“In the given circumstances of weather conditions, we cannot rely on travelling via Jammu-Srinagar highway. Besides, the air prices are unaffordable for us,” he said.

The aggrieved aspirants have appealed to the governor administration to take up the matter with authorities in AIIMS as early as possible.

Earlier, National Testing Agency (NTA) – the exam conducting body for NEET Undergraduate exams – had allotted exam centres of around 3500 students outside Valley and in other states. The move evoked resentment from aspirants which prompted the NTA to allot four additional exam centres in Kashmir.
