A delegation from the Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCIK) convened a series of discussions with authorities wherein meetings were held with; Director Industries, Director Handicrafts, and Commissioner SMC. The delegation led by its President Tariq Ghani, Jr. Vice President Aijaz Ahmad, Joint Secretary M.M. Hussain, and Treasurer, Imran Nazir met Commissioner SMC, Mr. Athar Amir Khan (IAS) who was commended by the delegation for his tireless efforts towards the beautification of the city. The delegation extended its heartfelt appreciation to SMC Commissioner for inaugurating the magnificent “Ghanta Ghar” (Clock tower) that stands as a proud symbol of the city’s rich heritage. The President said that the clock tower, a historic marvel, graces our city, constantly reminding us of our roots and traditions. It represents a collective effort to uphold our cultural values and traditions while embracing progress and development. The President said the clock tower has already become a focal point for gatherings, events, and a source of inspiration for artists and tourists. As we move forward, this clock tower will continue to stand tall, representing our city’s vibrant history and promising future. It is a symbol of unity, pride, and a shared commitment to preserving our heritage for generations to come. The delegation hailed the efforts of the official toward the transformation of Lal Chowk, the city’s heart. He said that this is the turning point for the city as Lal Chowk has now emerged as a benchmark and that people especially tourists are thronging the market. The delegation expressed their gratitude to the officer for the timely completion of the beautification work.
The delegation also met Director Industries and Handicrafts Mr. Mahmood Shah where various issues related to handicrafts and industries were discussed. Mr. Shah gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured his full support to the team. The President stressed the issue of renewal of handicrafts which should be our top priority as it represents our heritage and culture.
The delegation also called upon Director Tourism, Mr. Raja Yaqub, where several issues were discussed regarding tourism. The President requested Director Tourism for the renewal of Hotel registrations which should be resolved on priority basis. The President hailed the Director Tourism for reviving Dodhpathri and Ahrabal as major tourist destinations. The delegation said that tourists are visiting the valley in multitudes but due to restrictions imposed in connection with Yatra, the movement of tourists is hindered causing inconvenience to them. The Director Tourism took serious note of the issues and assured his full support. In addition, President CCIK said that the pristine beauty and enchanting allure of Kashmir have captivated the hearts of travellers from around the world, as a surge in tourist arrivals paints a vibrant picture of flourishing tourism in the region. He said that tourism has the power to bridge gaps between cultures, fostering mutual respect and appreciation. Therefore the President said that we should celebrate a Grand Tourism Day which would serve as a reminder of the importance of embracing diversity and opening our doors to the world. Tourism Day would offer a platform for tourism-related businesses, local communities, and governments to showcase their commitment to the industry’s growth and sustainability. Special events, promotional offers, and cultural exhibitions could be organized to engage both tourists and residents, fostering a sense of unity and global awareness. The President suggested encouraging all stakeholders, including businesses, travellers, and community members, to embrace the idea of a Tourism Day and to actively participate in its celebration.
