Army chopper crashes in Kathua,

A helicopter belonging to the Indian Army crashed near Ranjit Sagar Dam lake in J&K’s Kathua.

Officials told that the chopper crashed at around 11.00 am with 5 to 6 persons onboard at Purthu in Basohli, which is a hilly area in ​​Kathua.

They said that the chopper crashed and fell into a lake of Ranjit Sagar Dam after developing some technical snag.

The helicopter of the 254 Army Aviation Squadron took off from Mamun Cantt at 10:20 am. The helicopter was carrying out low-level sorties in the Ranjit Sagar Dam area when it crashed.

“Rescue teams have been rushed to the spot. Divers have also been called in. There is no information about the number of people who were on board this chopper,” said RC Kotwal, SSP, Kathua district.

Earlier this year, in January, one pilot died after an Indian Army helicopter crashed in Kathua district’s Lakhanpur near the Jammu and Kashmir-Punjab border. The HAL Dhruv helicopter crashed after developing a technical snag. An MiG 21 Bison aircraft had crashed in Rajasthan’s Suratgarh while landing in January.

“Ranjit Sagar Dam shares border with Punjab, Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir, however, the area where the chopper crashed falls in Kathua district,” the official said
