We may have to start farmers’ type agitation for restoration of J&K’s special status, says Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar: Former Chief Minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said that they are fighting for the restoration of lost identity of Jammu and Kashmir and people may have to start farmers’ type agitation to get back J&K’s special status.

“The situation in J&K is not right. PDP has been talking about resolution of Kashmir issue and also the restoration of the special status that we have lost, and for this, we will have to fight. And we may have to go for farmers type peaceful agitation. The world is listening to them, ” said Mehbooba Mufti while speaking in Baramullah in Kashmir.

She also added that if govt won’t restore the statehood of J&K, people won’t go ‘begging’ for it.

“We want the restoration of rights and identity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and if they want to give statehood to Jammu and Kashmir or not, we will not beg before them,” she said.

She also said that if the government believes that everything is fine in Jammu and Kashmir, then why do they need to bring in the foreign delegations.

“To make these delegations realise that everything is normal in Kashmir, they removed bunkers at various places while more than 10 lakh security personnel are still there in the valley. They are misleading even these delegations and a select few people of made to talk with these delegations,” she said. On Wednesday, envoys from several countries, including member states of the European Union and the OIC, began their two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir to assess the ground situation in view of the efforts made by the govt to restore normalcy in the state.

This is the third visit of envoys to Jammu and Kashmir in the last 18 months after Centre withdrew the special status of the erstwhile state and bifurcating it into two Union territories by carving out Ladakh.
