Centre Extends Tenure of IAS Officer Basharat Qayoom in J&K to Ensure Administrative Continuity
Srinagar, Feb 11: In a significant administrative decision, the Union Government has approved the continuation of senior IAS officer Shri Basharat Qayoom (JH:2016) in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir for another year.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet cleared the proposal moved by the Department of Personnel and Training to extend his inter-cadre deputation from the Jharkhand cadre to the AGMUT cadre beyond 23 February 2026.
The move is being viewed as an effort to maintain stability and momentum in key developmental and governance initiatives underway in Jammu & Kashmir. Officials said the extension, granted in relaxation of existing deputation norms, reflects the confidence of the Centre in the officer’s performance and administrative abilities.
Shri Basharat Qayoom has been associated with several important public service programmes and grassroots governance measures in the Union Territory. His continued presence is expected to strengthen implementation of flagship schemes and district-level reforms.
The decision underlines the Centre’s focus on ensuring experienced administrative leadership for effective delivery of services and sustained development in Jammu & Kashmir
