Truck intercepted in Pulwama; heroin worth lakhs recovered, one held
Pulwama, Jan 6: In a major success reflecting its sustained crackdown on the drug menace, Pulwama Police on Tuesday intercepted a truck during naka checking at Litter area of the district and recovered a substantial quantity of heroin-like substance worth lakhs in the international market.
Police said a truck bearing registration number JK22B-3175 was stopped and searched, during which 263 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Ather Maqbool Ganie, son of Moqbool Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Waghama, Bijbehara, was apprehended on the spot.
The truck involved in the offence has been seized.
Accordingly, FIR No. 03/2026 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the concerned police station, and further investigation has been taken up to ascertain the source and destination of the contraband and to identify other persons involved in the racket.
Police reiterated their firm resolve to eliminate the drug menace and appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing information to help keep society drug-free.
