Traffic Advisory Issued for Gulmarg and Other Hilly Roads Amid Snowfall Forecast
Srinagar, Jan 4:
The Traffic Police Rural Kashmir has issued a fresh advisory in view of prevailing weather conditions and predictions of heavy rain and snowfall across the Valley, urging commuters to follow restrictions on hilly routes to ensure safety.
According to the advisory, vehicles with seating capacity of more than ten passengers, including tempos and public service vehicles, will not be allowed to ply from Tangmarg towards Gulmarg starting January 5, 2026, until road and weather conditions improve. Authorities have directed vehicle operators to deboard passengers at designated holding areas or parking slots in Tangmarg. Passengers will then be permitted to travel towards Gulmarg only in light motor vehicles fitted with proper anti-skid chains.
The traffic department has made it clear that no vehicle without anti-skid chains will be allowed to move on the Tangmarg–Gulmarg road stretch till further improvement in road conditions.
In a separate advisory, the Traffic Police stated that movement on all hilly roads across Kashmir will be regulated strictly as per prescribed cut-off timings and traffic advisories. Motorists have been advised to confirm travel timings from Traffic Police Control Room Kashmir before starting their journey.
The advisory further states that vehicles without proper anti-skid mechanisms will not be allowed on key hilly routes, including Tangmarg–Gulmarg, Kangan–Sonamarg, Sinthan–Kishtwar, Pahalgam road, Mughal Road, Kupwara border roads, and Gurez–Bandipora road, if these routes remain open for traffic.
To avoid congestion at holding areas, only registered anti-skid chain vendors will be allowed to fix chains at designated locations.
The Traffic Police Rural Kashmir has appealed to commuters and tourists to cooperate with authorities and strictly follow advisories to avoid inconvenience and ensure safe travel during adverse weather conditions.
