Islamabad: Ukraine’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Markiian Chuchuk, has issued a strong and unequivocal rebuttal to a statement released by the Russian Embassy on December 11, 2025, dismissing it as a collection of falsehoods, deliberate distortions, and propaganda aimed at concealing Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine.
In a detailed statement issued on December 16, 2025, Ambassador Chuchuk rejected Russia’s repeated attempts to label the war as a “Ukrainian crisis” or a “conflict in Ukraine,” calling such terminology intentionally misleading. He stressed that these phrases are part of a broader propaganda effort designed to blur the line between the aggressor and the victim. Under international law, he emphasized, Russia is waging a war of aggression, while Ukraine is exercising its inherent right to self-defense.
The Ukrainian envoy noted that the international community has unequivocally recognized Russia as the initiator of the war. He cited multiple United Nations resolutions that condemn Russian aggression, reaffirm Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and demand the complete withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukrainian territory.
Ambassador Chuchuk strongly criticized Moscow for misrepresenting international diplomatic efforts, stating that the United States and European countries have rightly imposed sanctions on Russia as an aggressor state and have provided vital assistance to Ukraine. He expressed Ukraine’s gratitude to all nations that have supported Kyiv in its struggle to defend its people and uphold international law.
Addressing Russia’s attempts to justify crimes against Ukrainian children, Ambassador Chuchuk condemned such actions in the strongest terms. He stated that Russia’s aggression has had devastating consequences for children, including abductions, forced transfers, and systematic efforts to erase their national identity through indoctrination and re-education. He underscored that these acts meet the criteria of genocide and require international recognition and accountability.
The Ukrainian ambassador also dismissed Russia’s claims that legal measures against it, such as the seizure of frozen assets, constitute “theft.” He clarified that international law is explicit: a state responsible for an internationally wrongful act, particularly aggression, is obligated to provide full reparations for the damage caused.
Ambassador Chuchuk further rejected Russia’s attacks on the legitimacy of Ukraine’s president, calling them baseless and politically motivated. He explained that the delay in elections is solely the result of Russia’s invasion, which has made free and fair elections impossible. Ukraine’s president, he affirmed, remains lawfully elected and constitutionally legitimate, and the government cannot be labeled illegitimate under any legal standard.
Condemning Russia’s nuclear threats against Europe, Ambassador Chuchuk warned that such rhetoric constitutes a grave violation of international law and reflects Moscow’s willingness to undermine global peace and security.
He also accused Russia of attempting to draw the Global South into a false “anti-Western” narrative to conceal its neo-imperial ambitions. In reality, he said, it is Russian aggression that poses a threat to the sovereignty and security of all nations, regardless of region or political alignment.
Concluding his statement, Ambassador Chuchuk reiterated that the Russian Embassy’s declaration is nothing more than a propaganda exercise designed to obscure the truth. He reaffirmed that Ukraine remains committed to pursuing a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace based on the UN Charter and international law, while continuing to defend its people, sovereignty, and internationally recognized rights.
