Ruhullah Mehdi slams Nitish Kumar for pulling at Muslim woman’s burqa
SRINAGAR (KIMS) — National Conference MP from Srinagar Ruhullah Mehdi on Tuesday strongly criticised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for pulling at a Muslim woman’s burqa in public, calling the incident “indefensible and deeply disturbing.”
In a post on X, Mehdi said Kumar owes the woman and the public an unconditional apology.
He said the chief minister’s conduct had raised alarming questions about his composure and mental clarity required to hold a constitutional office.
Mehdi added that seeking medical attention and stepping aside was necessary in view of the incident.
Ruhullah’s remarks came after a video went viral in which Kumar is seen pulling down the face veil of a Muslim woman during a felicitation ceremony in Bihar.
The incident has drawn sharp criticism from political and social circles across the country. — (KIMS)
