UN Report Warns Generative AI May Limit Job Opportunities and Wage Growth for Women

The United Nations has raised concerns over the potential impact of generative artificial intelligence (AI) on women’s employment. According to the latest UN report, while AI is rapidly transforming global labor markets, its benefits may not be distributed equally.

The report highlights that generative AI tools, such as chatbots and automated content creation systems, are expected to replace or reshape millions of jobs worldwide. However, women could be disproportionately affected, with their opportunities for career growth and fair wages facing new challenges.

Sectors where women are heavily represented—such as education, healthcare, administrative support, and creative industries—are among the most vulnerable to automation. The report warns that if proper safeguards and policies are not introduced, women may find themselves pushed into lower-paying roles, with limited chances for skill development and leadership positions.

The UN called on governments, industries, and policymakers to take urgent action to ensure that the AI revolution promotes inclusivity rather than widening existing gender gaps. Measures such as upskilling programs, equal access to technology, and stricter workplace regulations were recommended to protect women in the evolving job market.

“AI must be designed and deployed in a way that supports fairness, equality, and empowerment,” the report stated, urging stakeholders to focus on creating a future where women can thrive alongside technological progress.
