Govt Appoints Enquiry Officer to Probe July 23 Incident at GMC Srinagar
Srinagar, July 26 : The Jammu and Kashmir Government has appointed a senior IAS officer to investigate the recent law and order situation that unfolded at the Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar, on July 23, 2025.
According to Government Order No. 506-JK(HME) of 2025, issued by the Health and Medical Education Department, Baseer ul Haq Chaudhary, Mission Director of the National Health Mission, J&K, has been designated as the Enquiry Officer to conduct a comprehensive probe into the incident.
The officer has been directed to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including its immediate precursors and aftermath.
A key part of the inquiry will focus on the closure of Operating Theatres (OTs) at the hospital, determining whether the shutdown was avoidable and identifying individuals responsible for any dereliction of duty or violation of protocols.
The enquiry will also look into internal administrative coordination, existing grievance redressal mechanisms, and the hospital’s overall functioning.
The officer has been tasked with recommending both remedial and preventive measures to ensure such incidents do not recur.
Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, Administrator of Associated Hospitals, GMC Srinagar, has been appointed as the Presenting Officer in the case.
The Enquiry Officer has been given 15 days from the issuance of the order to submit a detailed report to the government.(KNS).
