U.S. Declares The Resistance Front a Global Terror Group After Pahalgam Massacre
In a decisive move against transnational terrorism, the United States has officially designated The Resistance Front (TRF) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) entity. The announcement was made by Secretary Marco Rubio, emphasizing the Trump Administration’s commitment to global counterterrorism and justice for victims of terror.
TRF, widely known as a proxy of Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 innocent civilians. This attack, the deadliest on Indian soil since the 2008 Mumbai carnage, sent shockwaves across the region and drew widespread condemnation.
“These designations reaffirm our resolve to counter terrorism and hold its perpetrators accountable. The Pahalgam attack will not go unanswered,” said Secretary Rubio.
According to the U.S. Department of State, TRF has been operating under multiple aliases as a front for LeT, executing several high-profile attacks against Indian security forces, particularly throughout 2024 and early 2025.
The designations were made under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act and Executive Order 13224, making it illegal for any U.S. entity or citizen to engage in transactions with TRF or its affiliates. Additionally, all assets linked to TRF in U.S. jurisdiction are now frozen.
This move strengthens international efforts to isolate Pakistan-backed terror outfits operating in Jammu and Kashmir and underscores Washington’s alignment with India in its fight against cross-border terrorism.
