The solemn event was held under the esteemed patronage of Dr. Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal, GMC Srinagar, who inaugurated the camp with a heartfelt address emphasizing the role of the medical community in responding to both local and national tragedies. She lauded the commitment of doctors and healthcare workers who continue to lead with service, sacrifice, and humanity.
The first donor of the day was none other than Prof. Iqbal Saleem Mir, Head of the Department of Surgery and Chairman of JAKASI. His participation set a powerful example, underscoring the spirit of dedication and compassion that defines the surgical community at GMC Srinagar.
All donors were faculty members, senior residents, and junior residents from the Department of Surgery, showcasing the unity, professionalism, and humanitarian spirit that the institution is known for. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with dozens of units of blood voluntarily donated, aimed at supporting the region’s blood banks and contributing to emergency preparedness.
This noble initiative also served as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation, especially in times of crisis. It reinforced the message that every drop counts and that through collective action, lives can be saved and communities strengthened.
The Department of Surgery and JAKASI expressed their deep condolences to the families affected by the Ahmedabad tragedy and reaffirmed their commitment to continue such service-oriented initiatives in the future.
