IAF Soars Stronger: CDS Highlights Tactical Triumphs and Lessons Learned After May Skirmish

New Delhi, May 31, 2025

– In a candid yet uplifting interview with Bloomberg TV during the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on Saturday (May 30), General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), turned the spotlight on the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) resilience and remarkable recovery following skirmishes with Pakistan on May 7. While confirming that the IAF faced challenges during the conflict, General Chauhan emphasized India’s swift tactical advancements and renewed strength in aerial operations.

“What truly matters is not the setbacks, but the strength we’ve built from them,” General Chauhan told Bloomberg TV. “We’ve analyzed every aspect, corrected our approach, and emerged stronger—ready to defend and strike with precision.”

General Chauhan’s acknowledgment marks a bold and transparent step, showcasing India’s commitment to learning and growth. Dismissing Pakistan’s exaggerated claim of downing six Indian warplanes as “absolutely incorrect,” the CDS highlighted the IAF’s ability to adapt and excel under pressure. In a parallel interview with Reuters, he reinforced this forward-looking stance: “Our focus is on understanding the ‘why’ and ensuring we’re better prepared. The results speak for themselves.”

The CDS proudly detailed how the IAF turned the tide after the initial challenge. “Within days, we implemented critical lessons, refined our tactics, and redeployed with unmatched precision,” he said. By May 10, the IAF launched a powerful counteroffensive, deploying a range of aircraft armed with advanced ordnance to penetrate Pakistan’s air defenses. These missions successfully neutralized key targets deep inside enemy territory, demonstrating India’s aerial prowess and adaptability.

“The IAF’s precision strikes on May 10 were a testament to our renewed strategy and unwavering resolve,” General Chauhan added. “We flew with confidence, equipped to protect our nation and deliver decisive results.”

Throughout the four-day conflict, Indian officials maintained a steady focus on progress. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Air Marshal A.K. Bharti supported a pragmatic approach, with the latter noting, “Combat brings challenges, but it’s our response that defines us.” General Chauhan’s statement builds on this, reflecting India’s unified commitment to growth and readiness.

Pakistan’s earlier claims, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s assertion of downing six Indian jets, including three Rafales, on May 7, have been firmly rejected by Indian officials as baseless. General Chauhan’s clarity reinforces India’s credibility and focus on facts, paving the way for trust and transparency.

The May incident has proven to be a catalyst for transformation, propelling the IAF to new heights. With cutting-edge tactical adjustments, enhanced training, and a focus on precision, India’s air strategy stands stronger than ever. General Chauhan’s words echo a powerful message: setbacks are stepping stones to success.

As the IAF soars with renewed vigor, India’s aerial might shines as a beacon of resilience, innovation, and unwavering determination in the face of modern warfare’s complexities.
