Major Encounter Underway in Sanyal Village, Hiranagar

ANN NEWS DESK

Sanyal, Hiranagar (Kathua), March 24: A major gunbattle has erupted in Sanyal village of Hiranagar, approximately 5 kilometers from the International Border, between militants suspected to be foreign terrorists and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of District Police Kathua. The encounter began late Sunday evening and continues as security forces engage in intense operations to neutralize the militants.

Officials have confirmed that a 7-year-old girl from Bihar sustained minor injuries during the crossfire. The child has been stabilized at a nearby hospital and is reportedly out of danger.

Sources indicate that a group of 4-5 heavily armed militants, believed to be Pakistani nationals, are involved in the standoff. Additional reinforcements, including paramilitary troops, have been rushed to the area, and the village has been completely cordoned off to prevent any escape. Security forces are exercising utmost caution to ensure the safety of civilians in the vicinity.

A senior police official told ANN News that this operation could prove to be a significant breakthrough for the forces in combating cross-border militancy. “We are confident the operation will be concluded successfully, possibly by Monday morning,” he added.
