In a major breakthrough against online radicalization, the Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) apprehended Showkat Ahmad Dar, a resident of Doodh Mohalla, Shalimar, Srinagar, who was operating a Facebook account under the alias ‘Shaddy Kashmir Dryfruits.’ The account was being used to disseminate extremist content aimed at glorifying terrorism and inciting anti-national sentiments among the youth.
Acting on credible intelligence, the CIK launched a swift investigation and apprehended the suspect despite initial challenges due to his frequent changes in location. Upon his arrest, digital devices were seized, revealing incriminating materials, including propaganda videos of slain terrorist commander Zakir Musa.
This is not the first time Showkat Ahmad Dar has come under the radar of security agencies. In 2019, he was arrested for involvement in stone-pelting incidents, and in 2022, he was detained by the Cyber Police for spreading radical content online.
The success of this operation highlights the effective collaboration between intelligence agencies and the special monitoring units established by social media platforms. These units promptly report any radical activity in Jammu and Kashmir, enabling swift action by law enforcement agencies.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to countering online radicalization and protecting young minds from extremist influences. Investigations into the suspect’s associates and further legal actions are underway as per the law.
This operation underscores the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb terrorism, both on the ground and in cyberspace,
