Police arrest six drug peddlers arrested in Baramulla

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — While continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested six drug peddlers in Baramulla and Sopore towns of Baramulla district in North Kashmir on Sunday and and recovered contraband/psychotropic substances from their possession.

“A drug peddler identified as Mohd Shaban Maray, son of Late Gh Mohd of Dudbugh was arrested by a Police party of Police Station Chandoosa headed by SHO Police Station Chandoosa at a checkpoint established at Thanda Kasi Chandoosa. During search, 56 grams of Charas was recovered from his possession,” Police said in a statement.

“Similarly, two drug peddlers identified as Mehraj Ahmad Najar, son of Late Fateh Najar of Limber and Shabir Ahmad Bakerwal, son of Wazir Mohd of Babagail Limber were arrested along with 88 grams of Charas by a Police party of Police Station Boniyar headed by SHO Police Station Boniyar at a checkpoint established at Limber Boniyar,” the statement said.

“Additionally, two drug peddlers identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Magray and Dawood Ahmad Magray, sons of Gh Rasool Magray of Dudbugh were arrested along with 85 grams of Charas by a Police party of Police Post Babareshi at a checkpoint established at Babareshi Crossing,” the statement said.

“Another drug peddler identified as Majid Ashraf Khan, son of Mohammad Ashraf Khan of Pethseer Sopore was arrested along with 110 banned tablets (Alprazolam) by a team of Police at Chinar Crossing Fruit Mandi,” the statement said.

“All the accused have been arrested and cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated,” the statement added.

Police have urged the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112.

They have also requested the people to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society.

“We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” the statement ends. — (KIMS)
