Three drug peddlers arrested in Shopian; Heroin, Charas worth lakhs seized
SRINAGAR (KIMS) — In continuation of efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, District Police Shopian conducted two successful operations, leading to the arrest of three drug peddlers and the seizure of a significant quantity of contraband substances.
“In the jurisdiction of Police Post Wachi, a Naka was laid at Batapora Wachi link road, where a pedestrian, Umer Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohd Ismail Bhat, resident of Marhama Sangam, was intercepted. During his search, 1.880 kg of Charas was recovered. Consequently, a case (FIR No. 107/2024) under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Zainapora,” police said in a statement.
“The operation was carried out by DO Wachi under the supervision of SSP Shopian Shri Anayat Ali Chowdhary-IPS. Further investigation is ongoing to identify the forward and backward linkages of the arrested individual,” the statement said.
In another operation, Police Station Shopian received information regarding a sale and purchase deal of heroin in a residential house at Bonbazar Shopian.
“Acting on this, Shopian Police raided the house of Bashir Ahmad Sofi, son of Gh Hassan Sofi, a resident of Bonbazar Hergam Shopian, and arrested him along with his accomplice, Parvaiz Ahmad Peer, son of Ghulam Din Peer, a resident of Tujar Sopore. During the search, 381 grams of heroin were recovered. A case (FIR No. 175/2024) under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Shopian,” the statement added.
“This operation was meticulously executed by DySP Hqrs Shopian along with SHO Shopian. Further investigation is underway to uncover the network associated with the arrested individuals,” the statement ends.
