Khurshid Alam rejoins PDP in Srinagar
SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Weeks after former minister Syed Basharat Bukhari rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), another senior leader, Muhammad Khurshid Alam, rejoined the party on Saturday at its headquarters in Srinagar.
Alam rejoined the party in the presence of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Ms. Mehbooba Mufti and other leaders from the party.
Alam, after rejoining the party, said, “Home is where our feet may leave, but not our hearts.”
“In 2021, I made the decision to join the People’s Conference, seeking new perspectives and experiences. However, over the past few years, it has become increasingly clear to me that the core values and long-term vision I hold align more closely with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” Alam said in a statement.
“One of the key factors in my decision to return to the PDP is the unwavering resolve of its president, Mehbooba Mufti. Throughout the trying circumstances of recent years, she has faced relentless harassment and unimaginable hardships. Despite being rendered homeless and enduring the desecration of her father’s grave, she has remained steadfast in her commitment to the people of Kashmir. Mehbooba Mufti continues to speak truth to power, advocating for the rights and well-being of our people, despite knowing the might of the establishment she stands against,” the statement said.
“Her courage and dedication have been a beacon of hope and resilience. She is the only leader consistently voicing the struggles and hardships faced by the people of Kashmir. History will not absolve us if we, as political leaders, do not stand by her side during these critical times,” the statement added.
“My return to the PDP is driven by a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to support Mehbooba Mufti in her mission,” the statement concluded. — (KIMS)
