5 notorious drug smugglers booked in Kashmir: Police

 

Srinagar, Oct 20  : Acting tough against drug smugglers and to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said to have booked five notorious drug smugglers under PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla & Bandipora districts and lodged them in Central Jail Kot-balwal Jammu after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent Authority.

In Baramulla, the three most wanted and notorious drug smugglers namely Musadiq Afzal Masoodi @vicky son of Mohd Afzal of Pampore Pulwama, Mohd Shafi Hajam son of Nazir Ahmad of Wanigam Bala & Ghulam Hassan Ganie son of Ghulam Rasool of Trikanjan Boniyar have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent Authority. The booked drug smugglers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-balwal Jammu, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

Pertinent to mention here that many cases are registered against these drug smugglers and they were involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Baramulla, Uri, Pattan Boniyar & other areas of District Baramulla.

Despite their involvement in many FIR’s they did not mend their activities and were again involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth, police said.

In Bandipora, two notorious drug smugglers namely Mehraj-Udin Bhat son of Mohmad Maqbool Bhat resident of Plan Bandipora and Ather Altaf Lone son of Mohmad Altaf Lone resident of Nowpora Bandipora have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent Authority. The booked drug smugglers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-balwal Jammu. The duo drug smugglers were promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Bandipora, police said.

General public have appreciated the role of Police for their action against drug peddlers. Police consistent actions against the drug peddlers should reassure the community members that police is making all efforts to keep our society free from drug abuse, police said—(KNO)
