Four Local Militants Of JeM, LeT Killed In Twin Shopian Encounters

SRINAGAR — Four local militants, affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfits were killed in two different encounters at Shopian district of South Kashmir on Wednesday.

Three militants were killed in an overnight encounter between government forces and militants at Draach village and one militant was killed in another encounter at Moolu village of the district.

Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Draach and Moolu villages in Shopian district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.

They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spots, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

In the encounter at Draach village, three militants affiliated Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant outfit were killed and they have been identified as Zubair Maqbool Wani from Doompora Keegam, Jamsheed Ahmad Magray from Rajpora and Hanaan Bin Yaqoob @ Saqib resident of Kareemabad Pulwama and militant identified as Arif Rashid Wani from Shirmal, affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit was killed in Moolu encounter.

Arms and ammunition including 04 AK series rifles, 01 Pistol, 08 AK magazines, 04 Pistol magazines and other incriminating materials were recovered from both the encounter sites.

Police in a statement said that all the killed militants were categorized militants and were involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SFs and civilian atrocities.

The statement said that militants Hanan Bin Yaqoob and Jamsheed were involved in recent killing of SPO Javed Dar on 02/10/2022 at Pinglana area of Pulwama. They were also involved in killing of an outside labourer from West Bengal in Gadoora. Besides, militant Jamshed was involved in Ratnipora militant attack where he shot and injured two outside labourers. — (KIMS)
