8 Held in Bandipora for Links with Banned Separatist Groups
Bandipora, April 10, 2025:
Bandipora Police have arrested eight people linked to banned separatist organisations for promoting terrorism and anti-national activities in Jammu and Kashmir. The arrests were made during searches carried out at different locations across the district.
The police said the arrests were made during investigations into multiple cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
In one case (FIR No. 04/2024) at Police Station Bandipora, three members of the banned group Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu & Kashmir were arrested:
Nazir Ahmad Ahangar of Shahgund Hajin
Sheikh Danish Mushtaq of Aloosa Bandipora
Tahir Ahmad Mir of Ward 2, Plan Bandipora
In another case (FIR Nos. 07 and 62/2024) at Police Station Sumbal, three persons were held:
Ghulam Din War of Naidkhai, linked to Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP)
Khursheed Ahmad Lone of Naidkhai
Mohammad Shafi Dar of Karnai Mohalla Shahgund, both linked to Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League (JKPL)
Two more arrests were made in FIR No. 06/2024 at Police Station Hajin. Both accused are members of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League:
Abdul Majeed Gojri of Vigpara
Abdul Majeed Lone of Vigpara Hajin
The police also recovered objectionable material, pamphlets, and electronic devices like mobile phones from the suspects.
Officials said that even after being banned, the arrested individuals were working to spread separatist ideology and recruit young people into these groups.
Police said they are committed to taking strict action against anyone involved in promoting violence or illegal activities. “Those trying to disturb peace in the region will face the law,” a police spokesperson said.
