October 21, Srinagar – A total of 51 newly elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) took the oath of office in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday. The oath was administered by pro-tem Speaker Mubarak Gul during a formal ceremony.
Among those who took the oath were Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, and several senior political figures, including Congress legislator Nizamuddin Bhat and National Conference (NC) leader Altaf Kaloo. Cabinet ministers and other prominent leaders were also part of this group of 51 legislators.
Pro-tem Speaker Mubarak Gul announced that the remaining newly elected MLAs would be sworn in shortly. He further informed the assembly that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who contested from two constituencies—Ganderbal and Budgam—has decided to retain the Ganderbal seat and resigned from the Budgam constituency, where he also emerged victorious.
