4 Policemen Suspended After Rape Accused Of Escape Of Custody

Jammu: A rapist, who was arrested by the Mahore police of the Reasi district, escaped during the treatment of the Shalamar Hospital of Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS).

According to police sources, a rapist identified as Sajad Ahmed (30), son of Abdul Qayoom, a resident of the village of Chakyas Drass Kargil, was arrested by the Mahore police of the Reasi district in a case registered under the FIR number 21/17 under Section 376 RPC.

The accused was in judicial custody and, at the request of the Superintendent of the prison, was taken to the SMGS Shalamar Hospital to be treated under police escort.

The rapist managed to escape from the hospital today in the afternoon.

A fresh case has been registered in the relevant Sections at the city police station and a search has begun to re-arrest the rapist.

Dy. SP DAR DPL Reasi said 4 policemen; ASI Bahar-ud-Din, HC Rashpal, SGCT Abdul Latief, SGCT Raghbir Singh, who were escorting the rapist, were suspended for breach of their duties and a departmental investigation was ordered against them.
