2011 And Counting: Construction Work On PHC Building In Budgam Left Midway
Budgam: A non-functional Primary Health Centre building has become nuisance for the people of Budgam village here in Central Kashmir.
The Health Centre building these days is a favourite spot for drunkards and drug addicts.
Locals from Gundipora Beerwah area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district staged a protest saying that work that had been started on the Primary Health Centre in 2011 was left incomplete.
“Locals donated land for this PHC at Gundipora village. The work was started but abruptly stopped. We have been waiting for the day when this PHC will be inaugurated and thrown open for them,” said a protester to news agency Kashmir News Trust.
“Since 2011, we have seen officials visiting this building assuring people that this PHC will become functional but from 2011 to 2021 nothing changed,” the protesters said.
They said building has become a favourite spot for drunkards, gamblers and drug addicts. “Look at the condition here, everywhere there are cigarette packets, liquor and codeine phosphate bottles. We are fed up with the hollow promises from the government,” they said.
Locals demand either this ‘so-called’ PHC be made functional or it should be demolished. “We don’t want anti-social elements use this deserted building for their mischievous acts,” they said.
When called, Director Health Dr Mushtaq Ahmed said he is in a meeting and will talk later. (KNT)
