Srinagar, Nov 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Revenue Department is caught in an administrative limbo as 160 posts of Naib Tehsildars remain vacant for years, stalling vital revenue operations and affecting grassroots governance across the Union Territory.
Official sources told ANN News that at least 152 Girdawars, who had cleared the Revenue Service Examination conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC), have been working as Look After Naib Tehsildars since January 2019. Despite meeting all eligibility conditions, their formal promotions are still pending as the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) has not convened for several years.
“The non-convening of the DPC for such a long period has badly affected the functioning of the Revenue Department at the grassroots level. The government needs to expedite the process to fill these long-pending vacancies,” said an official.
Officials believe that clearing the backlog of promotions will not only restore administrative efficiency but also pave the way for the recruitment of around 160 new Patwaris, which could significantly improve land-related and public service delivery across J&K.
