13th Bn SSB, Dignibal in collaboration with SKUAST-Shuhama & SEEKS NGO, Wayil, Ganderbal celebrated World Environment Day by massive plantation drive at SKUAST-Shuhama

Srinagar June 05 :  “World Environment Day” was celebrated under the theme of Meri LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) with great enthusiasm by 13th Bn Sashastra Seema Bal, Dignibal, Distt- Ganderbal (J&K) collaboration with SKUAST-Shuhama & SEEKS NGO, Wayil, Ganderbal and Students from nearby Schools of Shuhama, Ganderbal.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Sh Som Nath, Second-In-Command (Offg. Commandant 13th Bn) said, it is time for the people living on Earth to stop harming nature and polluting it further. In his message on World Environment Day, he expressed grave concern for the incessant degradation of eco-system in  Jammu and Kashmir and said that water bodies of the region have shrunk drastically and also the Himalayan region is facing multiple challenges on the environment protection front and everyone will have to join hands to ensure that all pro-environment campaigns and initiatives yield better results on the ground.

To mark the occasion, Dr. Isfaq Ahmed, Senior Scientist, HOD of Krishi Vigyan Kendra has also appealed to the SKUAST-Shuhama & SEEKS NGO, Wayil, Ganderbal and Students to greenify their lifestyles and avoid using materials that have potential to deplete our environment.

In the above event, Officers, SOs and Jawans of 13th Bn SSB, Dignibal and Staff of SKUAST-Shuhama & SEEKS NGO, Wayil, Ganderbal and Students were present to grace to occasion.

Further, A special plantation drive was held wherein over 350 saplings of various shady and fruit bearing species were planted at the premises of SKUAST-Shuhama.
