100 not out: Man poses with cricket bat and helmet at petrol pump as fuel price hits century-mark in Bhopal

Bhopal: The price of premium petrol crossed the Rs 100 per litre mark for the first time ever in Bhopal on Saturday. Fuel stations in the state capital received a notification at 3 am on Saturday. Power petrol’s price rose up to Rs 100.04 per litre.

To protest against the rise in petrol price, a man staged a demonstration at a petrol pump with a cricket bat and a helmet to indicate that the fuel price hit a century. The man was reportedly a youth Congress office-bearer.

A photo of the man posing with the cricket bat and helmet has gone viral on social media platforms.

One user said, “After a lot of hard work and struggle finally!! Century for Petrol! #PetrolPrice.” Another wrote, “Fans are waiting for @imVkohli hundred from more than a year now but look who reached the Milestone First.”

Some of the older pumps in Bhopal were finding it difficult to handle the three-digit price of premium petrol. Ajay Singh, president of fuel pump owners’ association told TOI, “Petroleum companies had already updated machines for the triple-digit price. There may be a few machines that weren’t updated, but they will be, very soon.”

The price of premium petrol crossed the Rs 100 mark in Annupur district a few days ago.

Madhya Pradesh levies the highest fuel taxes among all states in the country and that’s the reason why fuel prices in the state are amongst the highest in the country. The state levies tax and cess of 39 per cent on petrol and 28 per cent on diesel. The central taxes are around Rs 31 per litre for petrol and Rs 23 per litre for diesel, as per the sources.

Fuel prices were raised for the seventh consecutive day across the country on Monday.
