0.6 Percent Vote In Pulwama In Phase-IV Of Panchayat Polls

Srinagar, Nov 27: Amid heightened security arrangements, 0.6 percent voting was recorded in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday.

Reports reaching GNS said that the government forces sealed all entry and exit points in poll-bound areas including Tral, Muran Chowk, Dalipora, Prichoo, Rajpora Chowk, Tahab Chowk, DC Office road, Chatpora, Pulwama.

The pooling booth for block Pulwama was established in security zone area of Chitripora near District Police Lines, Pulwama.

An official said that six nominations were filled for sarpanch elections against 24 wards in Pulwama block. There were a total of 2257 votes in the block.

Out of six, four were elected unopposed and fifth candidate Amit Koul has got 11 migrant votes while as his rival candidate Mehmooda Jan got only two votes. Koul won the election by 9 votes. The two votes which Mehmooda Jan got were cast by her herself and her husband. Both the candidates contested as independents.

Similarly, seven candidates filed their nomination papers against 16 sarpanches in Aripal Block of Tral.

At Shopian block, three candidates were declared unopposed against 12 sarpanches. Other wards in these poll-bound areas remained vacant with no candidate filing nomination. (GNS)
